1970'S PERFORMANCE ART V 21st CENTURY PERFORMATIVE ART

A tongue and cheek video work thats looks at the art world, art genres, and these two periods in time. The video references the work of the Viennese Actionist’s, and a light hearted take on their actions and the movement. The second section in the video references the YBA's of the 21st century and the rise of contemporary art/artists that were brought into the limelight by Charles Saatchi. Again, a fun take on the current times, the art world today, and the media’s role in contemporary art - a way of acknowledging the world of art whilst poking fun at it, and not taking it to seriously. Initially the work was created by Oreet Ashery and I, and was made specifically for showing at a party we held, however the video went on to be screened at other events. Although it's a low budget and simple video, it still resonates with art students and those who recognise the references and makes them smile. Well, those that don't take themselves to seriously that is.

Devised: Oliver Frost + Oreet Ashery.

Screened: Blowing Up, Clerkenwell Crypt, London, UK.
